On the other side, here's my take. Backrooms(2026) is performing deft slight of hand. It's visually dazzling while pulling the audience's focus away from a cruel, self-loathing, status quo narrative. I could say more- but I'd go on and on. When it hits streaming I'll write a full review.

tw// suicide/self-harm The Backrooms movie has got to be one of the most ableist meditations on one creator’s tendency for self harm that I have ever seen in my life. It’s frankly a very cruel, cruel film to put out in this climate at all, and a finger of blame pointed at our most vulnerable.

Backrooms(2026) is one of the most baffling films I've seen in my lifetime. It's mean in ways I didn't expect and could not have prepared for. Deeply fascinating but really fucked up. Thread to follow once I've slept on it.
