I don't really think 'pro' work should be stuff that's only printed with a publisher. There's a heck ton of incredible works in webcomics and I feel like because they are accessible and allow skill levels of varying degrees contribute to the medium, people see them as less. They're not!

Webcomics should be as respected as any other format in the comics umbrella, and I'm not kidding

please understand. artists don't get nearly as much feedback (praise, comments or otherwise) as you think they do. much less than years and years ago. we don't know how much you like it. we don't know how it affected you. unless you say something, or recommend it, comment, reblog. anything.

All I'll say about the evergreen conversation around using reference when making art is that it's very clear who the non-professionals/amateurs are when discussing this topic. The derision around using reference is beyond childish.

I was kinda stuck on what to do for my next Patreon comic, then a single prompt came to mind, and from there the whole plot unraveled with several parts, and it all happened so quick. Why would I ever give over this part of the process to AI? Once you nail it, it's the best feeling. It's creating!

One of the hardest things in comics is paneling, and it will take 100 pages or more until it gets better. No matter how good you are at illustrations already, you have to do comic pages, lots of them, to actually get good at it.

Reading comics and studying comics doesn't get you anywhere til you make your first, worst comic. Writing books and drawing pictures is not the same as writing or drawing comics and you don't learn how to do them until you do them badly.

Webtoon's rating system is just destroying all visibility. It has hurt my comic so, so much. Being slapped with a mature rating means people have to have an account to even see the comic, so anyone coming from socials has to go through that trouble.

I watched that Urusawa video on manga panelling and pacing, and my new motto now is "get to the effing point" whenever I thumbnail. I still want those nice, inbetween panels for reactions or for breathing room, but I want to focus on better flow and pacing.
