At #JSM2025 by @amstatnews.bsky.social#JSM2025 researchers added questions to our omnibus survey. Miguel Fudolig asked: How much do people trust AI for health advice? Only 14% “very/extremely” trust AI for health advice; 51% show low/no trust. See the 24 questions asked and the results in the report.

In August, we found that more than half of AI non-users (53%) said they simply don’t see a reason to use AI tools. As we prepare to release our September update, we’re digging deeper into what’s driving that perceived gap, and whether it’s shifting. Catch up on the August findings.

Verasight’s August Age of AI report is released. We found that a quarter of U.S. adults now use AI tools daily. While most say AI summaries in search results are helpful, only 6% feel very confident in their accuracy. Many still report anxiety about AI’s broader impact on society. Link below.

In our analysis of synthetic data, across the population percentages for each response option (“strongly disapprove,” “somewhat disapprove,” etc) the “attitudes” of the best-performing synthetic sample were an average of 4 points off from the true human sample.

Inflation was a big issue--maybe even *the* issue--in 2024. But do citizens understand how to interpret inflation rates? Using some new data from @verasight.bsky.social, the answer seems to be largely: no. On top of that, Republicans show significantly less understanding than Democrats.

Most people use AI at work to write for them (30 percent), summarize reading text (19 percent). Others use AI to manage their tasks (19 percent), automate repetitive work (14 percent), data analysis (19 percent), brainstorming (19 percent) and creating presentation visuals (14 percent).
