explaining how intraspecific trait coordination across climatic gradients helps to avoid heat stress in some (but not all) tropical tree species

Some tropical trees cool their leaves to survive the heat — but not all species have ways to cope
In full sun, tropical leaves can become much hotter than the surrounding air. Their ability to cope can be a matter of life or death.

🌿🔥How heat and VPD shape tree survival? We tested how acclimation to high temperature & VPD impacts drought mortality. While heat speeds up death via leaf area expansion, VPD acclimation slows it down by enhancing stomatal control - balancing mortality timing.

Are we seeing the last of the stringybarks in the Mount Lofty Ranges? Large areas of remnant trees now dying in the ranges & on Fleurieu Peninsula in SA 😳 This example in Belair Nat. Park. Better strap in, as there's no rain forecast anytime soon and we're just getting started with climate change 😥
