In subproject 1, Christian Ammer & Christina Hackmann (U Göttingen) will study how beech forests with different structures respond to climatic extremes like droughts. They focus on tree growth and water balance, using in situ measurements (sap flow sensors, dendrometers) and retrospective 13C data.

My first PhD paper got published recently 🌱 We explored how local neighborhood impacted tree water status, using high-resolution dendrometers. Turns out, it does! - under drought. Species identity matters a lot, too: check the paper to see who profited, it's 🔓 doi.org/10.1093/tree...
