Our neighbor school has started doing more of their own traffic calming. It’s great to see this tactical urbanism being employed, but frustrating that A. it’s needed at all and B. not being implemented by the city. It really does take a village.

Time for my annual mammogram bike parking appreciation post. Secure and well-spaced racks near the entrance in a visible but shady spot. Every health center should have similar healthy lifestyle promoting amenities.

This busy school intersection is designated “No Stopping Any Time” for an important reason. Hindering visibility at crosswalks endangers everyone - particularly our most vulnerable road users. We need physical elements to restrict parking and daylight crossings because signs will never be enough.

Do you know what works better than hi-viz to help you see bicyclists? Drivers actually stopping at stop signs and looking.

The first Bike Bus day of the 25-26 school year was a huge success! 143 bikes and scooters parked around the campus!

I had a lovely chat with this lady at the grocery store after she told me “Boy, do I miss riding a bicycle.” Ignore the “avid cyclist” who rail against change. Instead, realize it’s these people whom we are failing by not providing safe and connected non-car transportation options.

“It has focused on improving safety for children, youth, pedestrians and cyclists with safer crosswalks and smarter intersection design.”

Last night, we were reminded why we fight for safe streets. Alexis Bounds was killed by a truck driver 6 years ago. A tragic and preventable loss. The Alexis Bounds S Marion Pkwy Protected Bikeway, built after her death, is dedicated to her memory and to the sacrifice no one should have to make.

If you think protected bike infrastructure is expensive, wait until you find out how much car-centric streets cost - both in terms of money and in lives.

Jam packed bike racks for the second to last week of PHE Bike Bus! 127 bikes spread out around the school. What a great way to start the day!

Our Dutch bikes (& Tern) took over our local café today. We have a fleet of 5 bikes for exactly these occasions. Everyone can be on their own schedule, but easily meet up for a bit.

I’m sure he felt like a real tough dude when he honked his horn and sped past my daughter and me riding to the grocery store, but he looked like a scared little boy when we caught up with him on the next block.

I’m so happy the City Park farmers market is back for the season. Lots of bike racks means easy access and the protected bike lane ensures that we don’t get stuck in all the car congestion looking for parking. We even got to see two pelicans on the ride over!

Riding across town for crossing guard training in a spring snow/sleet storm may have been a bit challenging at times, but it’s still way better than driving - especially when you’re with friends.

2 big bags of compost and a bag of mulch by bike. Yes, we have a car, but why drive when it’s more fun and convenient to bike?

New skirtguard day! My old plastic ones (never cared for these) were brittle and falling apart so I bought the more classic vinyl fabric ones like I had on my old Omafiets. My Dutch eBike costs so little to run and maintain that these minor fixes are more joy than burden.

Our regular Wednesday Bike Bus had to cancel several times this winter due to icy streets. So we’re making them up with Bike Busses on Wednesdays & Fridays for the remainder of the school year. 89 bikes today! More bikes = fewer cars!
