1/ A thread about X, Threads and this demand we accept what tech bros demand we view, discuss, see, engage with and how obviously ridiculous it is from a personal perspective and from a free speech perspective.

2/ I'm a 58 year-old lesbian who grew up in a very small, very conservative, very white midwestern town. I was a remarkable athlete and got a scholarship to a power Big 10 team. My entire childhood, I got asked if I wished I were a boy because I liked sports.

3/ Everyone I played with was called a dyke, whether they were gay or straight. My coach threatened my scholarship if I came out. AIDS was raging in 1984 when I went to school and anyone who came out then in the midwest worried about losing jobs, family, and scholarship..because you would.

4/ Gays hunkered down in made families to protect themselves as much as they could from the corrosive homophobic world. I struggled so much in college...the pressure of staying in the closet and losing my scholarship. The fear of not finishing college and being unable to escape where I was.

5/ And so I left the midwest. Conservatives always said, "If you don't like us hating you and keeping you from opportunity, there are other states to live in." So I went to CA. My life improved financially, personally, emotionally, culturally. I met new people from all over the world.

6/ I engaged with remarkable, accomplished people of every color and culture. I left the gigantic bubbled that was my hometown of 98% white christians. It's now 97% christian and has only grown by 2000 people in nearly 40 years. Who have they engaged with outside of their bubble. No one.

7/ Is my CA world a bubble? Sort of. Certainly politically. But, I grew up in a conservative place and understand those folks. Some are lovely humans, some are utter assholes. Some are absolute trash losers. There has never been a time they've though, "Perhaps I should accept gay people."

8/Perhaps I should accept non-Christians, or black people or asians or Democrats. Never crosses their minds, because they're normal, damnit and that's what matters the most.

9/ For people like them to now tell me, again, that I must live as they presume I must and get on X or Threads so someone can tell me how I must broaden my horizons to include them? Fuck off. I know what homophobia is. I don't need to hear about it again.

10/My mom grew up in post-war Germany. I know what hatred of Jews and others is and what fascism is. I don't need to hear it from uneducated dumbasses like Elon's followers. None of that broadens my horizons. It's not new or interesting to me.

11/ My strength didn't grow from people like them, but in absolute contrast to them, with the variety I find in the more progressive side of the aisle. Does that make my political bubble that problematic. No! I can read anything I want, which I do.

12/ But in no world does that mean I need to be forced to do so. My freedom to associate with who I want trumps this idiotic demand they make from within their own political bubble. I don't consent and I won't ever feel bad about it. Don't you dare feel bad about it either, blue skyers.
