Today’s garden find is the Western blood-red lady beetle. I found several of them tromping along my riverbank lupine looking for aphids. One lucky bug actually caught one. These beetles are native to the region and are great for pest control since they eat aphids! I got them in the garden by

Today in the garden I watched a Western Tiger Swallowtail butterfly glide through. I can NEVER see where they land so I'm not sure which flowers to plant for them. 😭 I also watched a flock of crows chase off a red-tailed hawk. I've heard them do this in the past, but never actually gotten to see it!

I'm finally getting butterflies in the garden. I've been gardening specifically for birds and pollinators, and have so far had loads of different native bees (yay!) and birds (also yay!). But so far this year I've seen the Silvery Blue butterfly, and today the Painted Lady!

Fresh Mt. Hood strawberries and home made Chantelle cream is one of my top favorite desserts and is so easy to make. If you’re in the Portland area, get those Hood strawberries while you can. They remain probably the best strawberries I’ve ever eaten.

My last few days have been spent in various botanical gardens. My feet may hurt, but my brain finally feels calm.
