Yes. Realism in dialog would mean people constantly repeating themselves, saying 'uh' and 'um' and 'like' constantly, and thoughts drifting nowhere. That's how people speak. The SENSE of realism can be conveyed without any of that, and it's a million times more interesting to listen to.

I think the fundamental problem I have with "messaging matters" advocates is that it makes an assumption about people that I see very little evidence is true. The assumption being that people can sense "something is wrong" and are just waiting for the right message to call them to action. (1)
