We can slow & fight the existing terrors of the world, while making real steps towards the beautiful future we know we can build—one in which a destabilized climate is unfortunately a central fact, but so is our willingness to work together and to care for one another and the ecologies we depend on.

The one-two-three punch of pandemic/genocide/fascism has dispersed energies for now—understandably! We fight for climate justice because we love the world; we can't ignore tanks rolling into Gaza/DC/Chicago. But we do all our work with a broader vision in which a living, thriving Earth is central.

of treating (some) humans & the rest of life as expendable—letting fossil fuel (& deforestation, & animal agriculture) pollution devastate them. If everyone had stopped doing that when it became clear how dire the consequences were, then "climate change" would have largely taken care of itself.

The movement isn't just 350, SunDay, Fridays for Future, Sunrise. It's pipeline fighters in the Gulf South; urbanists in Seattle fighting for dense, climate-friendly, affordable housing; folks working on battery chemistry & sustainable building materials; folks in Memphis fighting xAI's data center;

This is a thoughtful piece on the fatigue & uncertainty of the climate movement in this era, but I have...thoughts. The movement is so broad & deep; I wish the reporter had gone further afield, & gotten more perspectives, which might have provided a much clearer vision of where we are. 🧵

In SD 25, represented by far-right Senator Dush, they have roughly the same need, but chronic underinvestment in transit means people in this part of the state have almost not options expect owning and driving a car -- an option unavailable to tens of thousands of residents.

It was exciting to learn more about JB’s views on transportation. In particular, the governor made it clear that transit has a future in Illinois noting the need for governance and funding reform. According to JB, “we’re going to have a world class transit system. We have to.”

Today in climate change: why is it 55° in Chicago and 86° in western Michigan

You might not see it on the news, but climate champs are racking up wins: ✅ Naperville, IL candidates swept city council to fight coal ✅ Susan Crawford secured WI’s SC pro-climate majority ✅ Barbara Buffaloe re-elected in Columbia, MO ✅ Our VA champs won both state rep special elections in January

The White House is clearly scared of the power states have to build the clean energy economy and is resorting to blatantly unconstitutional tactics. The Trump administration is hoping that pro-climate state governments back down in fear. How should states respond? Simple. Ramp up instead. 🧵

Ultimately, the core situation remains unchanged: virtually every climate law is already challenged, and virtually all survive.

Yesterday Trump announced that he plans to try to kill any and all state level climate policy, and like: my dude, you do not know the gauntlet every policy already has to run to become law. My response is below.

Here are 4 concrete things pro-climate state governments should be doing in light of this executive order… 1) Take budgeting seriously. Make sure that the office of the AG is funded appropriately to be able to defend this all the way. This is going to be a fight – make sure you’re ready for it.
