genAI has sucked the oxygen out of every room for two years now and its value proposition as pitched is that they're basically magic and will replace all human thought. We shouldn't say "it's sometimes useful" for the same reason we weren't saying "it sometimes drives straight" about the Cybertruck.

Some people just seem to want to eliminate all potential sources of discomfort, no matter how small or innocuous, from their lives. Fiction allows you to model experiencing big emotions in a safe controlled setting, and I just don't think any good comes of avoiding that to this degree

apart from its inherent qualities as a comic strip, I really appreciate that Watterson resisted the urge to franchise and merchandise C&H. There's no animated movie, no tv show, no line of toys, no ipad game. it exists in its entirety as a comic strip written and drawn entirely by one man.

Summon the Kraken. Oil on canvas One of those commissions where the stars aligned perfectly. The client wanted a picture of the Magic: The Gathering character, Kiora, summoning Arixmethes, a gigantic living island. It turned out to be one of my favorite pieces in my body of work to date.
