Jesus never told us to love our country, he told us to love our neighbor.

The ineptitude of conservative white Christianity boils down to a failure to accurately diagnosis the underlying causes of suffering in the world. It isn’t feminism, drag queens, or DEI initiatives. It’s love of money and power at the expense of basic humanity.

I can’t name a single birthright citizen who’s been convicted of 34 felonies.

By nature Christian Nationalist men are simply too emotional to accept that women don’t support their pathetic attempts to normalize supremacy.

Today I preached on LGBTQ inclusion in the church. Happy to report the message was received with grace and humility. Proud to be UMC!

Who knows, if the guy on the left wasn’t an incompetent racist predatory narcissist these two might’ve been friends.

Jesus could have been a woman but the gospels would have received much harsher reviews by movie critics.

Last night a grieving woman told me she loved me and didn’t know how to express her appreciation for my emotional/spiritual support. Tonight my wife told me I forgot to take out the trash. My life has balance.

And deathly afraid of all the skeletons that might escape their closets.

Most of the Christians who troll you for supporting the LGBTQ community are just afraid. Afraid of what will happen if they stop worshipping their own certainty. Afraid to find out God doesn’t actually endorse their bigotry.

Some of the best sermons I’ve heard were preached by women. Some of the most inspiring faith I’ve witnessed was demonstrated by queer people. Some of the best spiritual guidance I’ve received was from atheists. God can’t be contained in our little boxes.

Christianity ought to be loving, joyful, peaceful, patient, kind, good, faithful, gentle, and self-controlled. It doesn’t need to be muscular because—if it’s the real thing—it’s true strength comes from God.

Christians ought to vote in the interest of the common good with a little extra consideration for the underrepresented.

So many Christians seem to think faith is about observing tradition and following cultural norms, yet the God of Abraham invites us to see something new and to follow Jesus places our ancestors would not go.

It’s not sinful to be proud of your gender or sexuality. LGBTQ pride is a way of agreeing with God that creation—in all its diversity—is good. Ironically those who condemn the LGBTQ community are the ones guilty of sinful pride bc they love their opinions, not their neighbors.

This is true Christian leadership.

There are two types of Christians. Those who draw upon their faith to fuel love for others, and those who use their religion as an excuse to hate others.

Idolatry on full display in America, professed “Christian Nation” by so many, goes to show how few (any?) within this regime and those who support it actually try to live an authentic Jesus-led life.

Obviously it’s idolatry to suggest he is some kind of god, but it’s also idolatry—arguably the actual sin of the golden calf—to suggest God stands with him.

Our theology ought to make us better neighbors, not worse.

Jesus never asked us to have flawless on-paper theology. He asked us to have perfect real-world love. As in complete love, not withheld from those we’ve decided are unfit to receive grace.

If the way of Jesus was faithfulness—even to the cruel cross designed to intimidate and shame—then churches have no business measuring their success by numbers. A congregation of 5 may well be healthier than a congregation of 5,000.
