I worked as a stage actor for several years, the union wasn’t able to provide my family with affordable health insurance. I worked for a small church for over a decade, they weren’t able to provide my family with affordable health insurance either. Thank God for Obamacare.

The Mind Flayer isn’t real but supremacy is. If you’re white, male, straight, or Christian you need to actively choose to resist. Otherwise you’ll be a vessel that helps it spread.

When I look back on 2025, the large failings of the wealthy and powerful are eclipsed by the small victories of millions of ordinary people who lifted their voices and stood their ground in resistance against tyranny and authoritarianism.

Growing up evangelical I believed the lie that salvation is a product of thinking the right things about Jesus, but the true lesson of Christmas is God saves us by showing up among us. Following Jesus isn’t about passing theology tests, it’s about joining God at work in the world

Genuinely confused—how are all these immigrants who are sneaking into the country with nothing but the shirts on their backs somehow buying up the homes no one can afford?

This should be shared far and wide so as many people can read and bear witness to a narcissism that has no place in our society.

Just gave emotional/spiritual support to a woman who suffered fetal demise (miscarriage). We barely spoke one another’s language but it’s amazing how few words are needed in such moments. If you pray maybe send one up for them.

I’d say about 90 percent of being a good hospital chaplain is just listening well. No judgement, no advice, just open ears and a heart filled with unconditional positive regard. Can’t help but that’s the key to healthy relationships in general.

I talked to public school students about Jesus under the Obama administration. I prayed with city officials under Biden. So when people say Christianity is making a comeback under Trump I worry what they really mean is white nationalism wearing a cross necklace.

When Isaiah imagined the Messiah he thought of someone who looked past labels and common misconceptions. Someone who made fair assessments with special consideration for those in need and those who are suffering. Every Jesus follower should strive to do the same.

The presence of truth and justice will always provoke people’s inner demons. I think that’s why Jesus said he came not to bring peace but a sword. He was fully aware that the birth of a new creation would involve labor pains.

It’s possible to disagree with someone and still show them empathy. It’s possible to dislike someone and still show them compassion. Judgement isn’t the absence of critique but the withholding of grace.

Following Jesus isn’t primarily about escaping hell or getting into heaven, it’s about severing our allegiance to hellish systems and trusting God to bring heaven down to earth.

I invite maga Christians to make a choice: you can be loyal to Jesus, or you can be loyal to this president. You cannot be loyal to both. What they want and how they go about getting it could not be more different.

Growing up in the heartland I was constantly bullied for not being enough like the other boys. It never “fixed” me, but it made me care for and identify with marginalized people everywhere. I’d rather be like me, than them.

You can be gay and Christian You can be bi and Christian You can be ace and Christian You can be trans and Christian I know because many of the best Christians I’ve met are queer. It’s almost like authenticity is an important part of following Jesus.

What’s amazing about the penitent thief on the cross next to Christ was that he saw salvation in Jesus when effectively everyone else assumed he had been defeated. He recognized something the church in America desperately needs to see: God doesn’t think of winning the way we do.

I identify as a progressive Christian—mostly to stand in solidarity with others who have experienced harm in conservative Christian spheres. But my loyalty isn’t to the left of center, it’s to Christ who is above all the labels. If you’re conservative and kind, we can be friends.
