One of the quiet bright moments of lockdown was Sam Neill serenading us on the ukulele. This type of tenderness feels rare nowadays, how lucky we were. Thank you for everything. ❤️❤️❤️

I’m not close to old and I am already very much over all the spectacle and entertainment prior to the actual sporting event. Can’t we just announce those participating and get on with the home run derby?

Only just now seeing the Blaze Alexander HBP. Initial thoughts: of course KC would do that. But what frustrates me the most is that both Buck Showalter and Brandon Hyde would have gotten tossed for defending their player. Alby, like Mansolino, was just chillin, I guess.

It took me too long to realize this, but Sam Neill had the kind of career lots of people (in any field) aspire to. The guy did *everything* with enthusiasm, no matter the project or budget. It's sad when a great artist dies, even more so when they seemed like a good person who enjoyed life.

Like so many, I loved Sam Neill so much. His voice, perhaps even more important offscreen than on (which says a lot), is singular. Go watch his films. Go drink his wine (Two Paddocks). Go donate to good causes in his honor. Go be goofy and creative, kind and loving.

RIP to a real one. Sam Neill was one of those actors who is a pleasure to watch in whatever he’s in and seemed like a real sweet guy off-camera too. He left the world a better place than he found it.

On the plus side, we went to a block party today and I met a few folks from Brazil. We talked about the World Cup and how I was rooting for Bruno to make that penalty kick. One guys face said it all: so deeply proud, but oof. #nufc

Weekend bummer: got another flat tire on my Motobecane. I am likely to start looking for other types of road bikes (recs welcome! wider tires!) because as much as I love my ebike for commuting/errands/fun, I miss getting miles in the old fashioned way.

Today in bike life: - a van actually obeyed the right-of-way rules and waved as I passed him - went to the Farmer’s Market - biked back to work in the sunshine while passing groups of friends/colleagues walking about - had a dude say “now that’s a nice bike!” as I was on my way home #YesAventon

Would you rather work in an atmosphere of uncertainty and unease regarding direction, or travel a bit further (thus giving up biking to work) to be where you are desired and the atmosphere is wonderful, supportive, and caring? Shouldn’t be hard, but it is.
