Rails 8.1 ships with a feature I wrote for Gusto as a monkey patch they decided to contribute: the ability to deprecate an association. This is a first. Consulting is separate from OSS for me, access to Rails is not part of my value proposition, and I do not pursue "being paid for doing OSS".

Generally speaking, ancestor chains do not belong to public interfaces. Say, if an instance of Foo::Bar provides method `foo`, generally speaking, whether the method comes from the class or a mixin is not a concern of the user. That, and the module constant, do not belong to the public contract.

Context for my recent RBS posts. To use an API, or read source code, you need to know what do methods accept and return. And that is orthogonal to dynamic typing. I have always annotated my Ruby APIs internally, including private methods.

Correction: RBS itself supports interfaces, it is inline RBS what I had in mind. YARD has notation for duck typing, and in Zeitwerk I made up my own (see for example these two attributes github.com/fxn/zeitwerk...)

The main limitation I find in RBS is that it does not support duck typing interfaces, so common and idiomatic in Ruby.

RBS Dilemma. Optional types are marked with a trailing `?`. E.g., a method that returns `String` or `nil` has a return type of String? However, what if the method returns `Object` optionally? Object is technically enough, `nil` is an `Object`, but Object? may be a didactic redundancy?

RBS has changed its mind wrt booleans. The wiki says `bool` is like `top`, since all objects are booleans. Use the union type `true | false` otherwise. And recommends the former as preferable choice. This is the Ruby way. But the spec defines `bool` and `boolish`. Man, I dislike the -ishms.

Yes, according to that post the password change was in order to lock down the account. Which makes sense, in a way. My interpretation based on public statements would be that André failed to properly disclose it to RC (and from their perspective shouldn’t have accessed the account at all).

I don’t know anybody who is jumping to conclusions. Most conversations I’ve been involved in or read about are people asking questions trying to understand what happened. The only conclusions I’ve seen are that RC is terrible at communications and it’s starting to look like they’re bad at OpSec.

I am finding quite a few albums of classical music at 24-bit 192 kHz. I see 96 kHz more and more in other genres, but 192 kHz is rare. Maybe that is saying classical labels care more about hi-fi? Maybe because the typical listener cares more? Hypothesis, but would make sense.
