After seeing “Predator: Badlands” today, it’s so refreshing to see people subverting the action/scifi genre. It would be easy to assume it’s an attempt to retread existing IP, and instead they’ve so successfully infused two IP universes into a really fun, interesting film.

In 2025, the capacity of individual computers is amazing. As we build
@miren.dev
, we know the ability to self-host our solutions is critical. Whether it’s your laptop, a server under a desk, bare metal in the cloud, or virtual machines, you should have options without sacrificing features.

To everyone at RailsConf (#railsconf): It’s been a privilege to work, learn, and laugh with you over the past two decades. It’s been so touching to hear your stories over this last week and it’s a point of pride that I can call you all friends. See you all on the flipside. 🥳🥰

Currently 42 mins into a “take the train to LAX” experiment! So far, quiet, easy, uneventful! There is a bus at the end of this because the LAX People Mover is open yet. Oh, and the cost: $1.75

A great example of AI not seeing the forest for the trees: I'm writing an AsciiDoc parser and a Claude generated test for inline styles was: "*bold*, _italics_, `monospace`". So what did Claude generate to parse that? Code that parses a string with styles in that exact order.

In week 5 of a large scale experiment with letting generative AI code, where I try to take my hands off the wheel as often as possible. One insight the last week is that AI can't usually see the forest for the trees, instead it just sees an infinite sequence of similar trees.

I'm sitting in a (quite nice) airport foot court and was just thinking about how we all know that smart phones changed how people spend their downtime (glancing about that's true) and if AI/voice is next platform, what will this food court look like? 75% of the people talking to the air?

Today,
@evanphx.dev
ran some slang by the kids, saying, “so does anyone say this?” Our 10yo, after the full-body cringe of hearing her dad say it passed: “…WELL. NOT. ANYMORE.” 😅

I've been a startup CEO (again) for bit now and I can say that one of the most important decisions thus far was having
@aphoenix.bsky.social
as Miren's COO. The care and time she takes in managing critical parts of running a business really shows and I can't imagine doing it without her.

Headed on a long-ish trip in a couple weeks so decided to try out traveling a pair of XReal One AR/monitor glasses (I haven't tried glasses like this at all yet). Playing with them today, discovered an unexpected benefit: *Reduced* eye strain than normal because my eyes can focus further out!

After trying multiple times, I’m putting out a request: use a AI coding tool to build “a simple document viewer that runs with bun”. I’m looking at how the tools work and every time I try this, Claude gets completely lost just trying to get the most basic thing to run. Screen recording is best!

I just gave my 13yo my copy of The Crucible to read and I’m on the verge of tears now, both from the sweetness of sharing a recommendation from my own teen years and the bitterness of how it’s more relevant now than it was in my youth.
