The House has time to hurt trans kids and their families (everyone who voted for that bill can get fucked) and no time to prevent a massive rise in healthcare costs. Got it. Mike Johnson's only agenda is to maximize pain and suffering.

Ok, let's say it was true that Wiles thought this was all off the record (most likely, it's not). She still blew up Trump and his cabinet. Did she think "off the record" meant "just a gab session"? It was going to get published and it was going to be a big deal, credited to her or no.

Many people, esp. in management, don’t want new ideas, they want you to magically make old and familiar ideas feel new again. They want to experience the feeling of novelty and surprise again, but only the exact feeling they’ve already had with one specific piece of bullshit nostalgia.

Seeing “AI” boosters loudly and proudly say they don’t have any ideas and that they don’t think anybody has ideas anymore is genuinely funny Not just because ideas are the easy part, which most of you already know, but because very few people genuinely like new ideas and resist them at every turn

This idea of "thin empathy" and "thick empathy" from
@mjcrockett.bsky.social
is lighting up my brain this morning. It's an intriguing model. We've built a world where chances for thin empathy abound, but thick empathy remains hard to come by. I need to read that preprint today.

New! We worked with the Public Interest Research Group to test a bunch of LLM-driven toys ahead of the Christmas. That sexual talking teddy bear wasn't a one-off; it turns out disturbing behavior is deeply built into these toys across the board.

Earlier this week, 42 state attorneys general sent a warning letter to the major AI companies regarding the dangers and harms created by AI chatbots. It's as forceful an indictment of what's happening that I've found, so here's a short thread to walk you through the evidence they've compiled... 🧵

I have long felt that two core challenges need to be addressed: 1. Level off the top: tax the rich! 2. Raise the floor: more benefits for everyone else! Showing that the real poverty line is much higher than the calculation suggests makes #2 a priority.

This is probably bad news for the "human in the loop" theory for checking and correcting machine behaviors and outputs. Humans aren't guaranteed effective guardrails in human-AI collaboration because it's a SYSTEM and the parts influence each other; the human component doesn't stand alone.

Trump has produced spectacular examples of utter failure, embodied, that in turn end up being new units of measure. For example, we were gifted a new unit of time, the Scaramucci. Now we have the Halligan, the mass of a cubic meter of incompetence.

Relearning a 3D printing lesson you'd think I would have gotten by now: shitty old filament makes it very hard to get good prints. I've got two semi-ancient reels of PLA that I'd like to use up, but it just fails.

An important side note about today's Epstein/Trump revelations. They show that Todd Blanche's questioning of Maxwell was either (a) completely incompetent; or (b) intentionally crafted not to elicit facts incriminating Trump. Either way, he is not fit to serve as Deputy Attorney General.
