Gonna try something new in 2026. Going to try writing a story as a series of skeets, with minimal planning or plotting beforehand, posting more or less in real time. I guess we'll see where this goes.

Iāve encountered quite a few situations over the years where companies digitized an analog process based on process models only to find they overlooked most of what makes the process functional. Contextual inquiry is still such a rare art but it is the cure for this particular malady.

We had some sort of giant explosion in the Boston area. A sudden pressure wave, hit and gone in a split second. A bunch of my Cambridge neighbors out on the streets trying to figure out what it was.

*and another thing* letās assume this is correct, everyone just decides āfuck LA, i am moving to fargo, they have a major airport nowā, and fargo somehow builds it out ā do they think, in this farcical scenario, those states stay blood red?

No, they're just not going to fly. No one's looking to swap NYC for whatever "red state" city you can name if that's not already where they were going.

I am proposing the "don't talk or write about 'AI' challenge". The amount of discourse on this topic is exhausting. You love it, you hate it, it's going to change everything, it's just a tool, you use it for this thing, you'd never use it for that thing. Great. I don't need to hear about it.

deftly illustrates how the current desire to push "AI" is very different from the pull created by the early Web.

this is one of the most interesting things I've read about AI. Ben Affleck just sold his AI startup to Netflix for $600m. it's based on his analysis - as someone who's worked in movies for decades - of what AI is *actually useful for*. which is eg: adjusting film lighting.
