Whenever people complain about the number of folks relying on food stamps, it is worth reminding them that SNAP is, by too large of a degree, a subsidy for corporations that refuse to pay a living wage and their political allies who reject public policy prescriptions to reduce income inequality.

Here’s what’s at stake in the shutdown: If Republicans get their way, 50,000 Americans will die unnecessarily every year. 15 million will lose their health care. 20 million will see their premiums double. All so they can give a trillion dollar tax break to the 1%.

While you’re paying more for groceries, Trump is building himself a new ballroom and buying new private jets. You deserve better.

This is extrajudicial murder. It is illegal and unethical. And it is a pathetic use of American military force, demonstrating not strength but weakness.
