The more time I spend working on (and in) comics, the more stunned I am that graphic novels even make it to shelves at all. The fact that more comic creators don’t just throw their hands up and quit halfway through is honestly incredible. Comic artists are powerful, and they deserve the world.

Noticed that my drawing tablet is starting to have some connectivity issues. Seems the wire port is getting a bit loose. If I bump into it, it sometimes kicks itself out mid drawing session. This intuos has been serving me for 10+ years. It is nice and big and I'm not ready to replace it yet. :")

I'm so close to getting all the pages for the first BoC book done! Currently wrapping up line-art for the very last panels. Many epilogue spreads are still in the middle of coloring phase, but the flatting step is mostly done. It feels incredible to be so close! [ #boc-comic ]

Suunnittelin tänä vuonna "Tampere kuplii" festareilla piipahtamista. Valitettavasti näyttää siltä, että tällä kertaa täytyy jättää festarit väliin. Flunssa iski. :")

Drawing is fascinating because, no matter how clearly or vividly you can visualize the final artwork in your head, you never QUITE know how a piece will turn out until it’s finished. It adds an element of mystery to the process that’s kinda fun, but requires a lot of patience w yourself.

Especially for a comic, the thighter you can make your script the better. Cut any extra words. Make a piece of dialog do double duty. Everything you put on a page should be there for a reason. Had to cut so many things when editing a scene before thumbnails. After edits it always flows better.

For comic writers: As you edit, read your own dialogue out loud. Multiple times. Does it flow? Does it feel like something a real person would say? It makes the hitches in the script more obvious.

This is a strip that will likely fly over the heads of anyone who reads my stuff that ISN'T also a cartoonist, but hopefully will hit square between the eyes for other cartoonists.
