I was proud to join Together We Bake this morning for their annual Empowerment Breakfast! I'm so grateful for the work they do for underserved women in our region and grateful for the generosity of our community in their support!

Today, we remember the tragedy of 9/11 and honor those whose lives were taken too soon, many from our community. While we can never repay the sacrifices, their heroism will never be forgotten. We will never forget.

Today, I went to Richmond for the Heating and Cooling Building Code Study Group meeting where we discussed how to improve the Building Code to address residents' concerns around heating and cooling requirements. It was a fitting day to discuss air conditioning!

I'm grateful to have had 5 more bills signed into law. These bills came to me from constituents and my community, and I hope they will help students get to and attend school safely, support our small businesses, and improve our tax code. Yesterday, the Governor vetoed 3 of my bills and 154 others. These bills would have lowered prescription drug costs, raised wages, prevented violence, and much more. In November, we will replace him with someone who will prioritize VA families over corporations and the gun lobby.

Today is the Governor's deadline to act on all bills. So far, he has signed 5 of mine, with 3 to go. My constitutional amendment thankfully doesn't need his signature, but he has 456 bills including the budget left to act on in the next 6 hours!

I enjoyed speaking with the Rosemont Civic Association yesterday to provide an update on the 2025 legislative session. Attendees asked great questions about legislature modernization, protecting Virginia from federal funding cuts, the National Popular Vote Compact and more.

I had a great time at the ACPS Salute to Essential Workers event this morning at Douglas MacArthur Elementary School! I appreciated the speeches from essential workers serving our community in a variety of ways, the student performances, and the opportunity to show my thanks.

Today, I filed to run for re-election to the House of Delegates! I look forward to continuing to fight for our values in Richmond so we can keep moving Virginia forward. Thank you to everyone who collected signatures and signed to get me on the ballot!

It was inspiring to be in a room full of amazing women at this morning's Women's Leadership Forum hosted by the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce. There were great conversations on topics from navigating changes and resources for federal workers to the use of AI. And the panelists gave great advice!

I enjoyed running errands for our House Pages at the House Page Debate this week! I appreciated their discussions on sidewalks, alcohol labeling, mandatory recess and more, and I'm so grateful for all of their help this session.

I enjoyed meeting with two groups of @vayd.bsky.social yesterday! Young people are the future of our party and I am so grateful for their hard work electing Democrats and advocating for priorities like the right to contraception, safe storage of firearms, and raising the minimum wage.

I was so glad to meet with educators from the Alexandria chapter of the Virginia Education Association this morning. We share the priorities of increasing teacher and staff pay, eliminating the support cap, strengthening our support for special education students and more.

Great to speak with constituents from the Virginia Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, the EveryLife Foundation for Rare Diseases, the Jewish Community Relations Council, the Northern Virginia Association of Realtors, Civil Air Patrol, and Swipe Out Hunger yesterday!

This morning, I appreciated speaking with members of the Alexandria PTA Council about their priorities including fixing the school funding formula and eliminating the support cap; and the Virginia Coalition for Human Rights on protecting free speech and academic freedom.

It was great to speak with constituents from the Virginia Conservation Network, Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Virginia Pharmacy Association, and the Virginia Professional Firefighters! Thanks for your advocacy and the work you do.

This morning, two more of my bills passed through subcommittee! HB1996 ensures that public notices remain accessible and visible to the citizens, while HB1959 helps child care workers access free child care, to expand the supply of affordable, quality child care for all.

My last bill of the day was just heard, which means I am 5 for 5 getting bills out of subcommittee today! The two this afternoon were to require restaurants to provide water to paying customers upon request and to repeal a proven ineffective tax credit, saving us over $4m/year.

Today was the first day of the 2025 session! Sort of. Due to issues with Richmond’s water and the Capitol's fire suppression system, we will be at ease until Monday. I look forward to returning next week and hope that everyone in Richmond regains access to safe water soon.
