New research recently highlighted a major methane plume that appears to be from US producer Energy Transfer. This post from @greenpeaceusa.bsky.social highlights that plume and also has some optical gas imaging video that we have from that site showing emissions. These are not leaks.

Now that the public knows the extent of Alito's conflicts of interest in the upcoming case Suncor v Boulder, will he belatedly recuse? He should. He belatedly recused as recently as January in Chevron v Plaquemines Parish. But we need stronger ethics standards to compel consistent recusal habits.

Justice Alito's relationship with Singer came under scrutiny in 2023 when @propublica.org revealed that Alito failed to disclose a flight on Singer's private jet for a trip organized by Leonard Leo. Now, Singer has a lot of money riding on the result of the petition that Alito joined in granting.

Alito's well-known fossil fuel holdings should be reason enough for him to recuse from participating in any of these interconnected climate liability cases. But that's not even the only reason. The firm of his billionaire friend Paul Singer has billions invested in Suncor, one of the petitioners.

The American Petroleum Institute's #1 priority is "permitting reform," a euphemism for letting energy & tech data center industries bulldoze over our lands, waters, & communities. This is about money & power. Not climate. Not our economy. Not even energy. Money. And power. Act accordingly.

I cannot overstate what a mistake it'd be for Democrats to cut a "permitting reform" "deal with the devil" in this moment. The negotiation is centered on one & only one thing: the narrow interests of allied energy & tech (EnergyTech) industries demanding to build everything everywhere all at once.

Efforts to commodify O&G “produced water” (really, toxic production wastewater) are a good example of how the O&G industry attempts to entrench itself in society—esp. given fact that these efforts are sold as a solution to aridification (rather than to industry problem).
