I had hoped we wouldn’t get here. This is officially the longest government shutdown in U.S. history. This isn’t a record worth celebrating and it was completely avoidable had Congressional Republicans been willing to negotiate a solution to prevent health care premiums from skyrocketing.

I joined my colleagues at the Federal Building in Downtown San Diego after alarming reports of overcrowded basement holding cells. It’s absurd that ICE is blocking Members of Congress from doing our Constitutional duty. This Administration’s refusal to let us in is an outrageous abuse of power.

As a member of Congress, it is my Constitutional responsibility to conduct oversight. I’m demanding access and answers regarding reports of overcrowding ICE detainees in temporary holding cells.
