The richest man on earth owns X. The second richest man on earth is about to acquire TikTok and his family could soon own both Paramount and Warner Bros. The third richest man owns Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. The fourth richest man owns The Washington Post. See the problem here?

People did warn me when I was younger to pursue high-paying fields, and I always shrugged them off. I thought, “I’m not a materialistic person, I don’t want to live in luxury—I’ll be fine making a modest salary. Money’s not important to me.” Turns out you need a shitload of money just to be broke.

Women started fandom. Women started fanfic. Women started star Trek cons. Women invented beer, and the novel, while we're at it. Stop trying to erase women from spaces, you stupid, lazy, misogynistic fucks.

AI works exactly like all previous tech in capitalism -- it hides or erases the labor of workers from the consumer, in this case through theft. It's a pristine facade covering the touch of the human hands that constructed the building, the finish hiding the potter's fingerprints.

Haven't seen "One Battle After Another" yet (yes, I know it's ~incredible~) because I just can't stop thinking about how they gave unhoused people living in an encampment 24 hours notice to vacate so that they could film, knowing severe weather was about to roll in

Something about finishing a first draft is so much more relieving than actually having that draft published.. closing the 30+ tabs I have open, turning off my brain for a while, and knowing that someone will get their eyes on it and bring a new perspective is so satisfying

Yesterday I was told that the class I’m scheduled to teach this month, Confronting Oppression & Injustice, is no longer part of our curriculum. This is a required class yet there was no discussion, no faculty vote, just an email saying the class no longer exists. This is what it’s like in Texas now.

Spotify is playing recruitment ads for ICE. I love the app and listen for many hours every month. But I canceled it and told them why. When my subscription is up I'll be deleting the app. YouTube is doing the same. Additionally it's showing ads by Kristi Noem threatening Immigrants. They're next.

A majority of queer youth say they’ve turned to online spaces for support and community. But what if that goes away? Two new studies show that losing access to online safe spaces — whether because of age verification laws or restrictions on LGBTQ expression — could be devastating.

If you're grossed out by Spotify running ICE recruitment ads, refusing to pay artists what they deserve, and having a CEO who invested in AI military drone technology, here are a few alternatives 🧵
