There is no clearer case for the necessity of Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 than how quickly southern states moved to eliminate Black-majority districts and dilute Black power after SCOTUS eroded Section 2. SCOTUS’s reasoning was immediately disproven by reality.

We've had plenty of career politicians serve as Chief Justice -- former senators and governors, even a former president -- and yet none was such a nakedly partisan political figure in their role as Chief as John Roberts. He is a political hack and I'm glad hearing that simple truth makes him sad.

The corporate takeover of American politics was rapid and ruthless. In the 1970s, I watched as thousands of corporate lobbyists descended on Washington. Fast forward to today, and lobbying has become a multi-billion dollar industry. It all began with the Powell Memo.

I continue to think that "backlash politics" is the wrong frame. There has been a counter-revolution against the Black freedom movement for generations. It is a FRONTLASH and I think that not thinking of it this way has done a real disservice. It's been PERMANENT WAR.

1,000% this. Theres research that shows a few pro housing voices in local meetings can sway decisions. A vocal minority is how much of the Northeast and the Nation got into our housing crisis. Those voices need to be countered. Show up… or better yet join a local board!

Convinced that, if we all found 12-24 neighbors who would commit to attending one town-, school-, planning-, & zoning-board meeting a year (4 meetings each depending on how your local government is structured), shenanigans would diminish & we’d all live in better-for-us communities.
