Finally got around to cleaning and fixing up the kitchen cabinets I don't ever use (but need now, because I am running out of space). So far, I've found lots of expired seasonings (i.e. soy sauce from 2013), but behind all of it I found a completely intact vintage Champion Juicer.

My first music acquisition of the new year.

Cancelled my NYE plans due to bad weather. Decided to spend the evening tracking down parts to set up a better in-house fileserver instead.

I've been taking a month off from live shows. Partially due to fatigue, partially due to budget. In the downtime, I've been going through the archives and updating my filing system to make it easier to find items of note. In the interim, I'll share a few of those by year.

Yesterday, as I drove to a show, the iPod dredged up a track by 'Smiling', a sadly now defunct band that formed out of the remains of 'Annie Girl And The Flight'. I haven't thought about them for a while. I should probably just pull up the rest of their library and listen to it from end to end.

Local Joseph show in March? That makes me happy. Nat and Meeg are incredibly nice people and the fanbase they have curated is a joy to be around.

November highlights.

Left the house pre-coffee to go get my flu shot and COVID booster. Stopped by the bakery I like to bribe myself with food, and spent a good 10 minutes pondering their newest menu item. Espresso Shake. My brain was like -- what would shaking it do, aside from making it cost three times as much?

PG&E just sent me an ALERT to warn me that my gas usage had doubled in the past week. How much more usage does that amount to? 1 Therm. My usage increased from 1 Therm to 2 Therms. Yep. This is clearly a crisis, thanks for being on top of that guys.

It is time for the quarterly bout of 'Criterion Flash Sale + Coupon' decision paralysis. I think I've narrowed my pick to either "Klute" or "The Daytrippers".

Today's mail had me confused, because I thought I had received the topmost album months ago. (Turns out I did, but only in digital download form). I was only expecting to get the Living Hour and TMBG record (which I apparently ordered just in time since it is numbered 911/1000.

Annoyed to discover that the most recent Win11 update decided to plonk Copilot back onto my system and start running it the background on reboot. Had to update OOSU10 to once again eradicate it.

I didn't pick up a whole lot from the various record stores in the east bay -- but what I did pick up was cool.

Not very unhinged, but: Stop reading a book if you're bouncing off of it. Stop "powering through." You're just wasting your time. You don't get a gold star for finishing books you're not enjoying reading.

I'm impressed at how quickly the obvious scam bot accounts get shut down. The last one vanished from my feed before I even had a chance to report and block it.

The new Hatchie single is channeling some serious Cocteau Twins energy. No complaints.

October highlights.

Was surprised to crack this one open and see John Loring was heavily involved with it. Fleeting Joys (John & Rorika) are another one of our local musical treasures, and it always nice to see his either of their names pop up on something new.

It was wonderful to wake up to news of a new @mynabirds.bsky.social album this morning.

There was a lot of overlap between the "Japanese Breakfast" audience and the "Tennis" audience. So many tiny lesbians with faux accents, only this time with less face glitter.

September highlights.

A bittersweet farewell to a band I never got to see quite as often as I would have liked. At least they're making their final tour count.

Wasn't expecting this one either. I knew it was due out soon, but forgot the drop date was end of August.

Another early arrival. I'm sure the neighbors are sick of hearing me re-listen to Superchunk, this should provide a gentle morning diversion before I get back to blasting “Stuck in a Dream”.

This just showed up in today's mail, time to throw it on the turntable and crank up the volume.

Another nice surprise. When I heard the mailman drop off a parcel I figured it was going to be the new Mae Powell album, or possibly the new Winter album. Instead, it was a copy of the new Hand Habits!

Always nice to see a regional artist get recommended by a record store in the UK. Mae Powell was one of those artists who got done dirty by Park the Van, so it is nice to see her bounce back stronger.

Having this turn up nearly a month early is a nice surprise.

Always nice to get a chance to catch up with one of my all time favorites. It was less of a tour kick off and more of a tour rehearsal. But it went well, and anyone further down the calendar has a lot to look forward to.

August highlights.

Wasn't expecting to see this show up before the weekend, but I'll gladly accept it early.

I love that this exists. I can't justify the expense, but I'm glad somebody took the time to make it.

Glad to see Robert is still at it. So many people I enjoy have performed or recorded with him over the years, and the results are always brilliant.
