I reckon game engines should have a mandatory feature where if 4 years after you start a project you are still working on it, it just automatically ships it in whatever state it is in and forces you to move on to something new.

GenAI isn't a useful placeholder when making video games. It doesn't save time, and it actively stifles the creative process. Here's what local devs think:

‘Succulent Chinese meal’ speech added to Australia’s National Film and Sound Archive
Jack Karlson’s rallying cry of ‘democracy manifest’ added to national collection of sound recordings that hold historical, cultural and aesthetic significance * Get our breaking news email, free app or daily news podcast Thirty-five years ago, when Jack Karlson was hauled into a police car outside a Chinese restaurant in Queensland, he couldn’t have known his bombastic speech would be watched by millions around the world, become a meme and now, be preserved for ever in Australia’s National Film and Sound Archive. Karlson’s declaration – “Gentlemen, this is democracy manifest! … What is the charge? Eating a meal? A succulent Chinese meal?” – is one of nine pieces of audio that have been added to the NFSA’s Sounds of Australia collection this year, along with a pedestrian crossing signal and Missy Higgins’ 2004 hit Scar. seeing Sora getting shut down is a good reminder that while genAI boosters will insist the genie can’t go back in the bottle, it does appears possible for the genie to crawl back up Sam Altman’s butthole if the genie ever stops being supplied with infinite money

Remember: When you playtest a game, never take players’ feedback/suggestions at face value. Figure out what emotion is underneath what they’re telling you, and then figure out what in the game is causing that emotion

Lately I've been in Options Screen UI space and I often think of that thread of intentionally bad volume controls. I think we should rehash this with brave new worse ideas. ie Make the player type the whole name of the monitor they want to switch their game to.

Remember your favorite creator possibly might be struggling with imposter syndrome and doubt and this timeline sucks.. so if you find yourself thinking “wow I really relate to this persons work” or that persons work gives you joy, you should probably tell them. It’s a hard time to be a creative.
