With the Flowers of Algorab now out in Beta answering the where’s the intrigue question beautifully and the physical core rule book showcasing the usual quality and exquisite style of Free League I’ve had great fun running this and I think despite initial doubts it’s an excellent sequel to CtTH

We've now been running Coriolis:The Great Dark for a few sessions and it's excellent. As a radical perspective Lore is what made Coriolis The Third Horizon so good. And honestly the lore of the CtGD is just as compelling. The players have not yet left The Great Ship and we've loved it all.

I ran Kult: Divinity Lost last night for the first time and I found it excellent. The setting is amazing, and the mechanics do a great job of driving narrative forward. We've found it easy to get into the flow with the assist of the Foundry module which is very comprehensive.

Have been going through the Beta for Coriolis the Great Dark. It's bloody amazing, the art and layout are on point, the rules clearly laid out and the setting is evocative. It's a very dark turn, in some ways more of a child of Alien than The Third Horizon.

I think I can run most horror style games using Vaesen. It's got the right combo of complexity and mechanics ( fear) to handle most scenes. However as an odd reflection, I think fear is to brutal for something like a Kult setting, characters would just be continuously broken.

I had an epiphany today re a game I'm writing it actually allows me to balance an internal spiritual world with external perception of piety, which is critical for the game. Looking forward to the weekend when I'll actually have time to write it up.

Just finished a Desolation Called Peace by @byzantienne.bsky.social and it was outstanding, a rich, complex story examining the nature of otherness through the lens of a truly alien species. A space opera where combat happens for the most part offscreen, so you can focus on the humans involved.

Inspired by both Psyche and Ithaca, I'm reading through Aegean by @stoogoff.com, an excellent vehicle for telling the stories of mythic Greece. Expecting to run a few sessions in Feb and March making use of Foundry. Should be grand.

I have spent the Holidays reading and it was awesome. Something like 13 Novels in about 22 days. Fell in love with The Square of Sevens, Children of the Alley and Ithaca. Can also highly recommend Psyche, Cloud Cuckoo Land and Arabian Nights and Days. Looking forward to a year of decent reading.

Started running The One Ring by Free League. Its one of the best games for a mechanics driven approach to recreating a specific aesthetic along with Pendragon by @chaosium.bsky.social, Alien also by Free League and Warhammer Fantasy by @cubicle7games.bsky.social. Keen for other nominations.

I have been using Foundry to setup my Moria sandbox, it's been epic. Working with Chat GPT to create code snippets to run Macros has been illuminating. I don't use it for original content, but honestly I love having these custom Macros suited for how I want to run the game has been amazing.

Finished an end to end read of the new expansion for The One Ring by @mytholder.bsky.social and it’s awesome. Moria as a sandbox, which is as it should be The Balrog is a TPK monster, but what’s cool is how they have made it more than that, like Sauron it’s as much a presence as a monster.

Been working through my plan for a Cthulhu Regency Campaign. In addition to the two adventures I have found a heap I can adapt. So much quality material in the Chaosium canon to draw from, just need to resolve the order and link from one to the next.

Over the last several years I have accumulated a large number of Cthulhu and Kult adventures. Finding a lot of material that can be rebadged for a regency campaign with almost no effort. Really excited to rehome the Atrocity Exhibition from the excellent Taroticum and Other Tales in particular.

Well I’m going to run Regency Cthulhu - how can you walk past a game with mechanics for Reputation, where Dance as a skill might just save you from a terrible embarrassment.

Got this from a kickstarter run by Andi Licht a year or so ago. Really nice looking and excellent production quality.

My players have had great success in hunting the Great Spiders of Mirkwood, the combination of spider hunting skills, and unbelievable luck has resulted in the death of two of great spiders. Loving the Mirkwood campaign and the TOR 2.0 rules. Have to say they are excellent @mytholder.bsky.social

We continued our Vaesen / Harlem Unbound campaign this week. It’s such a joy to combine a simple system and a brilliantly written set of adventures. I love how it’s given the players such license to create brilliant characters. @darkerhue.bsky.social @effektpodcast.org @raldanash.bsky.social

Finally read through my Electric State Alpha by Free League. Really nice piece of work, it’s heritage is clear drawing heavily on Things from the Flood. The concept of travel, a Free League strength, as the campaign structure is excellent and the example adventure is weird as hell.

Running Cypher in a sci-fi setting and loving it. Such a simple system to GM. Players are straight into the game, and playing so well.

Spivey is brilliant and absolutely obsessive in his research. The TTRPG community needs more like him, so pick up some of his scenarios and games!

6 stage campaign for Old Gods broadly scripted, thinking I’ll go pretty sandbox on this with villains and Key encounters covered off. Will let the players choose where and how they engage, leveraging an ancient curse to ensure they are focused on moving forward.

Black Madonna by Helmgast games is an absolute master class in overview and GM support. The first twenty pages give a concise and yet comprehensive view of the entire campaign. Noting the story line is confronting, it’s worth looking at as a best practice example.
