This paper is the work of the Ely Valley Green Sandpiper Study Group, a joint @glamorganbirdclub.bsky.social and local @btobirds.bsky.social volunteers project. It established that the Ely holds up 5% of the UK's wintering Green Sand population and shows what can be achieved through citizen science!

Aren't Water Voles wonderful. This Water Vole was filmed going about its business on the River Thaw in South Wales. They were reintroduced to the river last year, after a 20 year absence. Surveys this year suggests that the population is doing well and the Water Vole are exploring new habitats.

The Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust (WWT) estimates about 100,000 waterbirds in the UK die every year from lead poisoning" An outright ban on shooting game-birds would resolve this once & for all!
