"Useful" is not sufficient
So Linus Torvalds, head of the Linux kernel development, put his foot down on the Linux Kernel development mailing list when someone was bringing up criticism of LLMs: “Linux is not one of those anti-AI projects, and if somebody has issueswith that, they can do the open-source thing and fork it. Or just walk away. […]

Carbon capture is expensive and largely ineffective at making a real difference on emissions. Especially when the captured carbon can be used for enhanced oil recovery, which lets companies access oil that would have otherwise stayed in the ground!!!

“Can an LLM produce text that solves a problem” is a subtly different question than “Can an LLM solve a problem,” but that gap truly does matter — whether you’re an abolitionist of AI or simply want to “use them better.”

Though I enjoy the USMNT's loss immensely, I'll spare a thought for Balogun who didn't ask for this controversy and all the undue attention that came with it.

THREE extremely unethical situations at the World Cup require more football stakeholders to challenge wrongs. 1. Banishment of the Somali referee 2. Balogun red card political interference 3. Treatment of Iran team Players/managers/officials/administrators. Pressure on FIFA should be unrelenting.

You cannot use a software system designed to make things up as research. You cannot rely on it to generate ideas, or translate text, or write for you, or check your grammar or spelling. If you do use it, you will have your moment. 100% fucking guaranteed. It will probably be really, really bad ⏱️

Can someone explain to me what is the point of showing "celebrities" attending matches on tv - especially while play is in progress? We want to see the game, not whichever rich wankers are in the stands.

Spacex is just a continuation of the logic of crypto, in which something is valuable because some people think other people will pay more for it in the future, and *not* because it does useful things:
