If a US military partner goes "we're gonna start a war and it'll blow back on you," American officials could easily respond "don't, and if you do anyway, we'll hold you responsible for our deaths and it'll ruin our relationship," instead of "ok, give us a month or two for a giant military buildup."

Trump has been bragging about ending “eight wars.” He believed being seen as a peace-making president would rally the base. That’s not working, so he now believes victory lies in the path of war-making. That this is a diametric reversal is irrelevant. Everything he said was intended in bad faith.

a thing that doesn't really get enough discussion about platner is that, even if you assume the latter here is true (and i do), it's going to make him strongly susceptible to malign influences if he gets elected to the senate; the framework to think about him isn't fetterman, it's gabbard

You have clearly not read the War Powers Act, Mike. Everything you've written is totally wrong. The War Powers Act SPECIFICALLY PROHIBITS military action unless: a/ there is a prior congressional authorization; or b/ it's a response to an attack against the U.S.

America sucks at voting because everyone says, "We should have listened to Black voters!🤡" after the fact, when it's far too late. But no one says, "So next time, I will listen to what 87% of Black voters are telling me to do!" Everyone always thinks that this time, they know best. They don't.

Part of the reason we’re in this mess is because so many Dems decided it would be in their best, personal interest to either take shots at or not really support both Biden and Harris. And, I agree, no candidate/elected is infallible, but that selfishness cost the country and I will not forget it.

This is bonkers, but it also screams at how scared Rs are of voters in November. We’re still in that window where voting can begin to stop Project 2025 from setting into the concrete. We’re running out of time, but a wave election in November would keep us in the game into 2028.
