This has been something I've struggled with since Covid tbh. I've never been able to entirely reconcile my politics with the undeniable fact that most of my neighbours would be happy to see me dead rather than inconvenience themselves for even a moment.

like there are people who believe you when you say you self-determined you are trans or maybe autistic, but won't believe you if you self-determine some other medical thing. they've only de-institutionalized their thinking about diagnosis for a couple limited things

I've learned a lot about how people treat me when I'm in a wheelchair and I can confirm that mostly it's what I expected (people are weird) but there's been new things I didn't like too so I'll document some of that experience here.

Cis writers: If you want to put a trans person in your story, just write a person and bring up that they're trans at *some* point within the story, ideally in a secondary way like having them mention HRT or something. If you want to write a story *about* a trans person, just like, don't.
