How are science writers coping with the unprecedented assault on science and what is the path ahead? Was honored to discuss this at
#SciWri25
plenary with
@shiplives.bsky.social
@jeanna.bsky.social
and Erin Podolak. Missed
@michellejewell.bsky.social
who still contributed much from afar.

“I’m a senior citizen. I’m tired.” Truly a devastating story about people unable to recover from disasters, even using all their retirement savings. I fear this for so many of us.

The national network of Climate Adaptation Science Centers met this week in Juneau, AK. Our visit coincided with a glacial outburst flood, atmospheric river and landslide - hazards becoming more frequent and severe as climate warms. CASC science addresses these risks & more, but is under threat.

15 hours means a storm like this could be identified in the middle of the night and, if it was making landfall, you’d wake up needing to figure out evacuation later that day.

You DO NOT need a social media following to be a "good" conservationist. You DO NOT need a super aesthetic social media account to be an effective conservationist. Most of the superstar conservationists I know don't even have accounts. Just FYI for no particular reason...
