The attack on the humanities and social sciences by the New Zealand government continues.

It’s not clear to me this is about funding “impactful science” as opposed to that just being a useful excuse for their gutting of some of the important mechanisms for showing their policies do harm.

Went to see Moana 2 reo Māori today. Lovely to see it in te reo, but we were all disappointed that it had English subtitles, and very distracted by them. Does anyone know if there are also screenings without subtitles? (And if so, bonus points if you know how we find one in Ōtautahi!).

Non-speakers of te reo Māori in NZ have extensive implicit language knowledge. Our new paper adds data from kids. Implicit knowledge of te reo is built both in childhood and in adulthood. Continuing exposure throughout the lifespan leads to increased knowledge. degruyter.com/document/doi...
