My favorite JEKYLL AND HYDE is Stan Laurel's DR PYCKLE AND MR PRYDE, which features a diabolical Hyde character who terrorizes London with petty pranks, gags and practical jokes. (And, ironically, is probably one of the more faithful versions.)

This Sporting Life is being shown tonight on the British Screen Classics channel. It was a role meant for Richard Harris, in much the same way I feel as Alan Bates in A Kind of Loving, and Albert Finney as Arthur Seaton in Saturday Night, Sunday Morning. Three great films and supporting cast.

Bucket list - tho' advanced planning might be more apt. My interest in Marseille goes back many years and research into the Leeds Pals and the First World War. More recently, a reading of Sheila Crane's Mediterranean Crossroads and its rebuilding after the Second World War. Next year, perhaps!

Baron Walter von Bissing - von Bissing was the half-brother of the German Military Governor of occupied Belgium (d. 1917). An interesting case, von Bissing was naturalised in 1906. He was living in the Brighton and Hove area in 1914, and later sent to the Isle of Man. #Internment #WWI #Writing

The Rocket on Euston Road was the Rising Sun when I knew it in 1984, with the Eliza Doolittle and National Youth Theatre within walking distance. The ED and NYT are now gone: nearby is the British Library. Closer to home, is the BL Document Supply Centre at Boston Spa. Life/research balance is good.

1/5. There is a Happy Land is a semi-autobiographical account of Keith Waterhouses's childhood growing up in a largely working-class area of South Leeds in the late-1930s/early-1940s. Keith Waterhouse was born in 1929. I thought the book worthy of further commentary re a previous post.
