Trump reinforced his support of the SAVE America Act during SOTU. One part he conveniently forgets? It requires states to hand over voter rolls to DHS & creates a federalized surveillance system of voters under Kristi Noem. The last thing Americans want is her in charge of their voter reg status.

Trump called for passage of the SAVE Act again during SOTU. Calling SAVE “voter ID” is MAGA sugarcoating MAGA to try to make Americans swallow this toxic bill. SAVE requires Americans to show a passport or birth certificate. REAL IDs don’t count. This isn’t election integrity, it’s election rigging.

Super important point. We’ve already seen trans folks struggling to get passports from this Admin - they could begin denying it to other citizens. The absence of birth certificates is also another sign of Trump Admin’s attack on birthright citizenship!!

Hmm I wonder what the long term strategy is behind replacing birth certificates, over which the federal government has no control at all, with passports, over which the Executive Branch has nearly exclusive control, as a foundational document for citizenship and voting.
