Just occurred to me that one of my gay origins was becoming completely obsessed with Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe by Fannie Flagg when I was 11. It’s the first “adult novel” I remember reading on my own, and it unlocked something deeply queer in me.
