Charlie Montgomery moved the second motion of conference. Motion 2 asked delegates to recognize colleges as part of the community, vital pathways to a better life for many in Scotland and therefore to oppose any attempts to restructure, restyle or reclassify colleges as pseudo universities.

Kathleen McGarrity one of the striking welding lecturers gives an address to delegates. She shares concerns that management have tried to frame health and safety concerns as if they were unaware of the extent of activity being taken in the welding department. This is wholly untrue.

Andrea Bradley, EIS General Secretary, also gave her speech to the FELA conference. She provided a message of solidarity from the whole of the EIS to colleagues in FE, and particularly to those who have been fighting for safe working conditions at the City of Glasgow College.

The University of Dundee has still not ruled out compulsory redundancies until the summer. This is despite the conditions of £40m funding explicitly stating that redundancies cannot go ahead until they have submitted a new strategy and workforce plan. This is causing huge stress to all staff.
