Had the pleasure of playing a demo of this game at PAX East recently, and it's WAY better than I think most people realize. I excitedly asked some Retroware guys about its release date, assuming it would be soon-ish, but they told me it won't be until sometime next year. I was heartbroken.

I'm just gonna say it. Neon Inferno has the best pixel art I've seen since the original Metal Slug trilogy. I'm just in awe of what they've accomplished here, and the game itself is great too. Bonus points for shipping with a competent CRT filter as well.

Twenty years on and I still think this is the most breathtaking sequence ever put in a videogame. Testament to the fact that scale and awe are not virtues of graphical horsepower alone

It's become a Christmas tradition for me to receive at least a couple gaming art/reference books every year. My collection is coming along quite nicely, I must say. I just can't ever move because transporting all of this stuff is gonna be a nightmare.

At the '94 AMOA Show, Data East's Joe Kamenkow stands with the infamous Tattoo Assassins, begun before DE sold its pinball division to Sega. Kaminkow stayed on the team to finish the game before switching over. Although it had a story penned by Back to the Future's Bob Gale, it was never released.

FYI - The last round of sound fixes for Tattoo Assassins are part of MAME .280. No ROM update necessary since these were changes made to the emulator itself. I decided to record an arcade playthrough of how the game runs and sounds in MAME now. No more weird squealing noises. 👍

Apparently the first-ever online Tattoo Assassins tournament (post-sound fixes) was run at Sawcon Zero recently. I wish I'd known about this beforehand because I totally would've entered it! Some nice mid-to-high level play in this, and I completely agree with them banning infinites for this.

Okay, this game has its hooks in me big time now. Just stumbled upon it on the eShop sale the other day, and I'm addicted. It's a simplified Slay the Spire with a fun pirate coat of paint, and it offers some surprising depth under the surface once you dig in. Music is great too.
