Really excitified (excited + terrified) for the launch of my new CPD model in Shrewsbury on Wednesday in partnership with @empowertrust.bsky.social! There are just over 40 people attending and this is a model I'm planning on rolling out more in Summer term.

Currently around 40 teachers attending my first in-person CPD session of this kind in Shrewsbury! Huge thanks to Wilfred Owen School and the Empower MAT for hosting me. Everyone who is booked has been sent attendee instructions for the day..

This term, my lovely class are going to be learning about castles using this awesome find by my mum! I've ordered some books to compliment too (will share). We'll be learning why they were built, their features, and local examples to tie in locational knowledge for geography.

One of my proudest achievements this year is the collaboration I did with the HRP team on significant individuals for KS1! They include free access videos and free supporting subject knowledge guides alongside a lesson task using portraiture.

And the first of our primary workshops comes from another outstanding practitioner @mr-s-tiffany.bsky.social who's going to be modelling historical thinking.

This has been my closing slide for many of this term's lectures and CPD sessions... It's not been an easy few years in education for anyone but I hope you still have the joy and pleasure too 😀

A common question asked is about activities using replicas/artefacts BUT this can easily miss the importance of collating sources. They must be placed within that sense of narrative arc to ensure value and avoid the misconception that one source = THE answer.

An idea I'm working with at the moment for the early lessons of a history unit: Should children engage in the same manner and 'detail' with every aspect of a timeline to ensure the hinterland is not minimised to the point it's lost? p1

A surprise to no one I'm sure but working on the timelines for my forthcoming Amelia Earhart sequence for KS1. I've broken it into two timelines to add a more precise emphasis to the important hinterland of her life and then the core knowledge which underpins the enquiry.
