SPY was rough today, but I ended in the green anyway! Fomo got me good at the start. The start of the day is tricky because there's no sense of overall trend direction. I should probably be more patient next time and avoid trades like that.

I was too sleepy to buy at $674.74 :( but got in after SPY closed over $676.61, sold at the $678.19 ceiling bounce, got back in at the $676.61 floor bounce, sold at the $680.00 bounce, greedily got back in at $680 and lost a few dollars at the end of the day, but overall... IM IN THE GREEN BABYYY!

There's a traffic intersection by my house, and every red light a clown juggles 3 bowling pins in front of the traffic (also awesome Halloween costume!) and I see this clown make bank through people just tipping him money.

Little thing I forgot to mention, but very important in my opinion because sometimes artists don't know how long something will take to draw, so you need to set a budget for those kind of art tasks or else the artist might just tell you "I spent a whole week on it... pay up".

I made a little talk about... drum roll... itch.io/t/5474583/mi... It basically goes over the budget importance of prototyping with small sprites and "key-frames-only" animations first before trying to upgrade your game's art. It also goes over some size comparison sprite refs. #indiedev #pixelart

Boy... charging one rate for static artwork is one thing, but if you ask me, animating is a whole different skill that deserves a higher rate. It's not just drawing multiple sprites. You can draw multiple great sprites that don't animate well together, so animators should consider that for charging.

Previous jam game with these image mockups never got submitted, but after I finish my demon attack animation, I want to try to give another 1 week game jam a go. At a minimum we'd need a programmer and audio designer because I only do pixel art and animation, so let me know if you want to join in!

Doing free art for other game devs can be a good way to show that you work well in a team and learn about the game dev side of art, and game jams is one of the few exceptions where I'm willing to invest some of my time to do free art, but generally doing free art is not worth it for a few reasons:

I've been thinking about grind culture a lot and listening to Gary Vaynerchuk back in the day and where it's got me today... #Upwork can be useful for finding art gigs, but several things that make me absolutely FURIOUS 🔥 with it: - Constant login issues - Need to login to contact support - Can't link external portfolio/external contact info or else possible ban - Account verification issues And I paid for this app...

Also unpopular opinion but if you're an artist with a small following and no client work history, social media isn't the place to find pixel art jobs. You're probably much better off mass applying to gigs on Upwork. At least I find it more effective.

Upwork is a buggy freelance app, and for pixel art gigs I usually see 0-20 applicants per gig which can be intimidating, you pay a tiny bit of money to apply for gigs, and I haven't landed many gigs there yet, BUT I still think it's the best option to scrounge.
