All the more brutal is the govt continuing to confidently stress how well this is going to work. Total disconnect that this is the other side of the coin. Tens of thousands of Australians right now facing a major leak of personal information because a company proactively started demanding IDs. FFS.

The timeline is nuts. Discord started doing ID checks on Australians in mid to late September. Within DAYS govt issued ID photos were in the breach. Photos Discord said "are deleted directly after" verification. And its verification partner claims it wasn't hacked. This system is already a farce.

So. To recap. Discord, a company NOT included in Australia's social media age restriction law, had its age verification partner breached and leaked around 68,000 Australian PII details. Even though it isn't included in the ban. Which hasn't started yet. Such a great start before we've even started.
