I almost never teach first-year comp anymore but I’m the secretary of the composition committee. Meanwhile, there is only one RhetComp professor on the committee, and that’s only because he’s the new guy and we’re required to have a Tenure on there. Like what do you people DO

I know that Rhetoric & Composition professors do something other that first-year composition. I just don’t understand *what* Do they, like, research … sentences? Are they writing papers like “Was Aristotle Right About the Syllogism?” “The Syllogism: Too Silly, or Too Jism?” Things of this nature?

My department has no Romanticists left, and our MFA program is about to be down to 3 tenured faculty. The university simply won’t fund tenure-line hires for us, even as they criticize us for our ungodly tenure-lecturer ratio. Nor will they re-classify our many lecturers.
