Inspired by a special project where they needed to export 36k hours of surveillance video from 1500 cameras to mkv, I wrote my first custom #powershell job using the ThreadJobs module for reference. Now it's a piece of cake to kick off any number of export jobs with controllable parallelism.

Well this is fun - I wrote a #powershell script to embed lyrics into my ripped music, and retrieve the user-submitted ratings from the musicbrainz api and embed them using metaflac. Then made some "smart playlists" for Navidrome to generate "best of" decade playlists using that data.

Maybe it's a bit 90s/00s but I gotta write a blog post on ripping music from the command line. Been playing with tools like whipper for ripping, beats for library/tag management, the LRCLIB api and metaflac for finding/embedding lyrics, and whisper and demucs for extracting lyrics when unavailable.

Obscure #linux #powershell question - I have a udev rule that runs a bash script, and the bash script runs a command in a subshell just fine as long as the subshell is bash. But I see segfault errors in syslog when I try to run a pwsh script from the script executed by the udev rule.

What's your take on requiring signed commits from external contributors on a public repo? I think it's important for maintainers to sign commits on anything commercial or widely used, but I feel like it adds unnecessary friction between a project and potential contributors.

I started running badblocks on a 14TB drive that I wasn't sure was actually failing, but I didn't realize how long it would take with the -w argument. 118 hours later it's 21% done with the fourth and final write pass, with one more read pass to go. I think the disk is fine but I'm committed now.

The download statistics from PSGallery only go so far. Adding telemetry to the module I built for our customers and partners made it MUCH easier to talk with leadership about the value our module brings. Can't wait to share more about how it works, and how we use it on Wednesday ✌

Oh wow, my #selfhosted audiobookshelf server is infinitely more useful now that I'm using an Android. I'm LOVING having my podcasts and audio books (and ebooks) all in one app, with support for downloading for offline playback. Without offline play it's not terribly useful on iOS.
