Ok this is a weird one - Copilot CLI only lists part of the available skills, when GitHub Copilot in VSCode sees them. I have no explanation for this difference, but it's annoying enough not to recommend Copilot CLI internally until I find a way to make it work properly:

I just tried LSP support in OpenCode, and it just... works. No manual configuration, it's just there, and automatically picks up LSP servers based on file extensions, and even has a way to automatically download missing LSP servers: opencode.ai/docs/lsp/

I decided to try the new LSP support in Claude Code only to figure out it's not straightforward to enable, requires installing plugins and LSP servers separately, and then it's apparently just broken anyway: github.com/anthropics/c...

I managed to map .github/prompts to .claude/commands using git symlinks, and it works! Now we can use the custom Claude commands from our main git repository in GitHub Copilot. It works very well in VSCode, but Visual Studio has bad UX, and the usual random failures that make it unreliable

I can't be the only one confused by this: the most direct GitHub Copilot equivalent of CLAUDE.md is .github/copilot-instructions.md, since AGENTS.md is only read in some cases (agents, unsurprisingly). The safest instructions file which is always read is .github/copilot-instructions.md

Random thought: if Visual Studio and GitHub Copilot CLI were to support ACP, it would be possible to use GitHub Copilot in Visual Studio possibly with better results than the built-in integration. Either that or Claude Code inside Visual Studio.

Pasting images into GitHub Copilot in Visual Studio 2026 is such a hit or miss. Not only did the thumbnails never worked for me, but sometimes GitHub Copilot can't see the image as well VSCode handles this flawlessly
