A bit technical thread 🧵 I’ve been improving the in-game ambient occlusion system - and ended up with something I call: Blob-based Analytical Ambient Occlusion on Primitives Here’s what it does to the final image: (more examples later in the thread) (1/16)

In other news I published a game I made on TIC-80 together with my kids. Its about Vuk Stefanović Karadžić, famous Serbian linguist and teacher. You can try it here, be mindful of level design done by 7 year old:

Follow-up with a little extra something... For those of you who'd like to peek behind the curtain a bit, I've uploaded one of my unreleased early maps from the game as a Steam workshop level, complete with little 'commentary' stations where I go into the process.

Still working on this. For smooth continuous zooming it's better to disable font hinting (FreeType hinting snaps glyphs to pixels, for obvious reasons) so I'm looking into ways to provide hints when changing size. (I'll rework the text layout functions separately from the font system)

The final part of my "Demystifying the PVS" blog series is now out! In "Portal flow brings it all together" you'll find an illustrated step-by-step example of Quake's recursive portal clipping. Also touches on Doom 3's interesting super-fast PVS builder. 📜

Treeverse.app
now shows the conversation thread as you mouse around. Nice way to navigate deep threaded conversations on here. It doesn't have a way to load more than what the initial API call returns, yet. Other than that, I think it's now at parity with the old Twitter version.
