Heh, about 10 years ago, I developed a little VR application for google cardboard, titled "Apollo 15 moon landing VR". It was kind of a hit in that niche, as there wasn't much available. I did it while in school, I thought VR was super interesting!

A very fast to render transmission shader that is fully opaque and relies on reflection probes to achieve a convincing look. An inverted normals ambient occlusion map is used as a thickness map. This approach could be further extended with an SDF of the model to perform more accurate refractions.

Mostly procedural weathering in Blender / Cycles. Dirt accumulates in corners, edges of stucco are chipped. Rain leaves streaks across the vertical surfaces, and puddles in the floor. Everything is driven via Geometry Nodes #b3d #blender #aztec

That big plotter has always been a bit wobbly as the arm is just quite big, but still the precision is quite nice Plus you can use weird pens to give you effects you just don't get from a printer, or special paper.

I don't think I ever posted this piece. It's 54 windmills in increasing stages of construction. It's pen-plotted with green ink on cotton paper. Each of the mills is generated using some python code...

With this super simple Geometry Nodes setup you can simulate weathering streaks on your mesh using "rain" particles. This is a bit dressed-down, you can spice it up with some random values per particle for example. #b3d #geometrynodes #geonodes
