I absolutely adored Sara Levine's THE HITCH, a novel about a woman who has to exorcise the soul of a dead corgi who has taken up residency in her nephew's body. It's funny, poignant, and has forever changed the way I'll look at corgis by describing them as having "prostitute eyes."

I’ve been thinking a lot about favorite memories at the Alamo Drafthouse and I keep coming back to the Killer Bearathon I programmed where we showed killer bear movies and I had a “make your own pic-a-nic basket” station with smoked salmon and Golden Crisp cereal.

Today is the final day for the Alamo Drafthouses in Houston, Lubbock and El Paso. I started working for the company in 2011 and was a part of the openings of five new locations (four of which close today). They were guild buildings full of good people and good memories. They made me who I am today.

I really dug REEL POLITIK by Nathan Gelgud. It’s a collection of comic strips that are silly yet smart (the best kind of both flavors) that follows a rep theater that throws off the shackles of capitalism. Also, there are talking animals. The Family Circus for the Letterboxd crowd.

SONG SUNG BLUE is a series of improbable events, illustrating the fact Wisconsin is both a land of dreams coming true and life trying to snuff you out at every possible opportunity. An actor doing a questionable Eddie Vedder duets with Hugh Jackman and there’s still 90 minutes left in the film.

Spent the winter storm finishing Luke Dumas’ THE PALEONTOLOGIST, a fun mystery involving ghost dinosaurs, cold case investigations, and really, really cold case investigations. Humane horror from the perspective of somebody who spends his life surrounded by the bones of monsters. Recommended!

If somebody had told me KPOP DEMON HUNTERS had a LOST reunion, I might have watched it sooner.

My wife spent the last week in the hospital. She’s doing much better but I learned spending time with somebody in the hospital is still very traumatic for me after going through hospice with my dad last year. I spent the night with her every night she was in there and every night felt like hell.

I was in JROTC all of high school. I witnessed the fact that there are just some people who want to join the military or become a cop or, now, join ICE because there is something deeply broken within them and they want to legally kill or hurt people. Gun culture is our problem, not immigration.

I came very close to deleting my second graphic novel. Last year, I was very depressed and very unsure of my skills as a writer. I didn't even want to look at my work, let alone share it with other people. Yesterday, I reread THE CURSE OF THE WHERE WOLF and it turns out the book is pretty dang good.

Life is hard. Reward yourself with simple pleasures, such as GRIZZLYSHARK, a 90-page graphic novel about a shark that lives in the woods and absolutely destroys anything unlucky enough to cross its path. It's written and illustrated by Ryan Ottley (INVINCIBLE). Two fins up.

All three of our Thursday preview screenings of NO OTHER CHOICE were pretty much sold out and the audience were incredibly diverse. I really do think Netflix has done an incredible job building an audience for foreign films and shows.

I finally had a chance to check out the first three issues of A HAUNTING ON MARS by @chappyzach.bsky.social, @colemancomicart.bsky.social and team. An excellent set-up that's equal parts Verhoeven sci-fi and ghost spookum. The art's great and the script surprising. I can't wait to finish the series.
