It's cool how we keep proving over and over and over again that there's a significant market for narrative-heavy, character-driven, single-player experiences in video games and publishers just categorically refuse to believe us

Clicking through, the majority of the space is "sold out" (knowing that they use seat fillers) and that the most expensive tickets appear to be resellers. Still wild to not set aside tickets for press, developers, and others who work in this industry.

I asked about Game Awards press tickets in October. Got an email yesterday encouraging me to buy my own, as there were no spares.

Our industry does have peer-voted awards, the most visible being DICE, Game Developers Choice Awards, BAFTA. There are scores of smaller developer-led awards too. We do have spaces to celebrate and uplift one another, please support and watch these shows! The teams work hard for the devs!

I was a member of TGA Future Class 2022 and lemmee tell ya, my skin has been crawling since pretty much every interaction I had with them (few) & story I heard about other members' interactions with them (many) was bad. & by bad I mean, so many shades of being used as photo op tokens & nothing more

EXCLUSIVE on @gamedeveloper.bsky.social: not only has The Game Awards not nominated a Future Class for 2025, it's told alumni it "does not have any active programming plans" for the award. The Future Class page was taken down sometime this year—eliminating a definitive archive of honorees.

perhaps the most egregious thing that happened with the Future Class was when The Game Awards took money from Old Spice in the name of the FC & simply... pocketed it it wasn't used to fund Future Class initiatives, it wasn't used to help lift marginalised developers they just profited from us
