The main thing that will "protect" children from porn is education about it, and wide cultural deconstruction of shame. Shame and censorship and taboo creates vast voids of ignorance, and ignorance is how children get taken advantage of by adults.

They will piss and whine and protest it's "to protect the children" or "defend traditional values" or "protect the sanctity of art" or fucking whatever. The reasoning is fungible, they'll pick whichever best lets them institute more censorship. None of this is ever about "protecting children."

This is always where it was going to go. They want control over how human bodies are allowed to be portrayed, not just nudity but in all aspects. Bluster about "protecting children" from pornography is just the wedge they use to open the door.

Positioning the human body as inherently lewd or sexual, as inherently containing qualities of temptation or sin, is TURBO fucked up, and it's the kind of cultural logic that allows men to say "that slut was TEMPTING me with that low-cut top!" and "why would she wear that if she didn't WANT it?"

And I'm sorry to harp on this, but the idea that the naked human body is shameful or provocative or sexual is just insidious at its core. It fucking isn't. A body is just a body, it's a bunch of flesh and blood and meat. To simply SEE it has no moral character one way or the other.
