Im in FL; the governor and state legislature forbids state spending for anything they deem "DEI" which includes anything remotely mentioning race/gender, including conferences and org memberships. Faculty are free to pay their own way, but often have to take vacation to attend.

FSU's policy refusing to fund presentations about structural racism is an example of structural racism. It will disproportionately impact marginalized scholars and deny them resources their colleagues can still access.

Third bullet point would restrict access to any conservative, "heterodox" or explicitly ideologically diverse conference, too--though we know that's not how it will be deployed in practice.

Just like the lies about Black and Latino graduation ceremonies this isn’t about exclusion it’s about whose concerns are centered in shared spaces.

I know it is beside the point because this administration simply wants resegregation but conferences for Black professional associations have always been open to everyone. Typically, the started as a response to white exclusion, and did not replicate that.

It’s insane to me that I am connected to and/or familiar with victims of multiple unconnected mass shootings. I live across the street from parents of a classmate who was killed in the shooting at my school. I have an 8th grade friend from San Diego whose Abuela was killed in El Paso.
