OK where I'm losing my mind, is this part. Those of us in the covid cautious community are often called anti-vax for the assertion that the vaccine does not eliminate transmission. Not saying it doesn't HELP, but it's imperfect. Have you been vaccinated? Have you had covid since? SO ARE WE WRONG?!

Then why did my entirely boosted choir have a superspreader of 25 people mere weeks after dropping mask mandates? That was just a big coincidence? Mandating masks helped drive a flu strain to extinction. Covid aside, why are people not interested in reducing transmission of ALL airborne viruses?

And two, in general, people in the center prefer preserving the status quo in which they are comfortable to making significant social changes like rights expansions. Any push toward major change upsets their comfortable sofa, and so they see all threats to that as equivalent.

Why? I can’t presume someone else’s heart and mind, but I have two theories. One, this argument is coming from people who used to be cautious but aren’t anymore and feel guilty and defensive about it. So making the people who haven’t quit seem nuts and extreme quells that feeling.

I don’t think I have ever seen a remotely popular Covid activist say people should not get vaccinated, and i follow tons of them. What I have seen is constant posts from the center saying this is happening, with no evidence and no follow up to the logical problem the claim presents.

But as far as I know, nothing has refuted the idea that more infections raise your risk of LC, and with a massively under vaccinated population that takes no other precautions, I can’t really see a situation where the number of seriously sick people doesn’t go up over time.

The 25-30% mentioned is a study with pretty wide parameters and probably isn’t gospel. But in my opinion, long covid is *likely* underdiagnosed, both because education on it is so stigmatized and few doctors are well-educated on it. People don’t know what to call their symptoms, and neither do drs.

Long Covid numbers, which the video goes on to cover, are wildly hard to nail down, because long covid is both new and extremely nebulous. But the person making the video even points out that her long covid is extremely mild, and that the disease runs the gamut from very mild to very severe.

In years of poor matching, flu vaccines give about that same % protection from transmission, the difference is that flu is seasonal. So in six months, if your protection is waning, flu probably isn’t at high circulation any more. Covid isn’t seasonal. A yearly vax is an insufficient strategy.

A yearly vax for Covid gives you somewhere in the neighborhood of 30-50% protection against transmission (though I’d love to see more updated numbers) and that protection wanes rapidly past the 6 month mark. Since 75% of US adults don’t even get 1 a year, how effective does that sound?

At no point does the video say not to get vaccines, it says that vax and relax was a misleading strategy and given that the largest wave of the pandemic was in 2024, not 2021 or 2022, I don’t see how you can argue that’s not correct.

This is a video points out that the main function of the vaccine is not stopping transmission (true, it’s reducing severity) and also points out that the vaccines are less accessible and people aren’t updating their vax regularly (also true, less than 25%). Calling it anti-vax is completely absurd.
